Alain Lecucq, puppeteer and founder of Compagnie Papierthéâtre, will explore the world of toy theatres. These miniature stages were wildly popular in the nineteenth century. At a 'penny plain, tuppence coloured', everyone could afford their own miniature version of grand opera, Shakespeare or Aladdin. Today a few puppeteers, including Lecucq himself, are reviving the art, using scripts by contemporary playwrights while still creating figures and scenery in card.
